payment services helpdesk app modernization

architecture review and development of a catalog of measures to modernize a helpdesk application for 1st level support

<

One of the largest European providers of payment services planned to modernize its helpdesk application for 1st-level support.

After a review of the current architecture, I developed a catalog of measures to improve the architecture. A key question for the planned modernization of the helpdesk application was whether the currently used framework (JSF version 1) should continue to be used or be replaced by another framework.

To help with the decision, I evaluated the state of current frameworks that could be used in the modernization as a replacement for the current framework JSF and created a decision matrix. As a further decision-making tool, I created a simple prototype that demonstrated some improvements and enhancements of JSF 2 over JSF 1 in implementing applications with JSF. In addition, I trained the development team, which had experience in JSF 1, in the design and implementation of applications with JSF 2, using application-specific examples.
